SNAPSHOT: Snow day

Forester James Peterson, of Rumford, measures pine logs for lumber Monday at a lot he harvested in Litchfield. The retired chemical engineer uses a cable skidder to twitch the pine to a yard where he determines which logs should be pulped and those that will be preserved for sawing.

SNAPSHOT: Sugar Rush 5K

Hall-Dale Elementary students, parents, faculty and staff run down Second Street in Hallowell on Sunday during the inaugural Sugar Rush 5K. The parent-teacher organization hosted the walk and jog to raise funds for the school and donate extra Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude, which delivers sweets to troops serving abroad.

Governor targets domestic violence

AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage discusses domestic violence Monday during a lighting ceremony at the Blaine House in Augusta. A purple light will bathe the governor’s official residence for a month to raise awareness about domestic violence in addition to 40 candles that will be kept lit in the windows.

Bikers against bullying

SNAPSHOT: Mandrel maker

Bill Forbes brushes a mandrel Tuesday he created in the foundry of the blacksmith shop located on the grounds of the Windsor Historical Society. Forbes said he hopes to assemble the handle and blade of the axe with the new mandrel this week.
