Mike Coulombe, a fish culturist with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, releases some of the 500 brook trout stocked in Sandy Stream in Unity on Wednesday. The fish were raised at the Palermo rearing station.

SNAPSHOT: Up on blocks

Workers with Paul Mushero & Sons set blocks for posts while lifting the Vassalboro Historical Society’s blacksmith building on Tuesday. Dave Bolduc of the organization said the 1920s building was sinking into the ground and needed to be saved by the jacking of the building and a smaller one nearby. From left are Todd Mushero, Paul Mushero and Phil Pouliot. When finished, the buildings will be open to the public for special events.

STILL LIFE: Stumped

Rick Smith has been busy for the last two days after he first cut down a willow tree, dug out the stump area, used a hand saw to cut up stump, chopped pieces with a splitting maul and finally attached a tool to pull out the stubborn stump at his home in Oakland on Wednesday.

SNAPSHOT: Mud season

As the temperature rises and rain falls, the frost is leaving the ground and producing perfect conditions to get stuck in the mud. Phil Crandlemire pushes as Arunee Rodsatra, of Thailand, and now a Sidney resident, on Tuesday attempt to free her car from a muddy rut in Waterville. After getting her car free Rodsatra said,”I’ve never experienced driving in mud before.”

PHOTO: Troy mobile home destroyed by Saturday fire

Troy Fire Chief Larry Raymond, front, and firefighter Jerret Roy haul hoses past a smoldering mobile home, off U.S. Route 202, that was destroyed on Saturday. Raymond said the mobile home, owned by Margaret Henderson, was reported on fire at 2:30 p.m. He said the structure was used to store personal items, clothes and household goods. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to determnine a cause. There were no injuries. It was the second major fire in a week in Troy.

STILL LIFE: Clean up crew

Nick Ferreira uses an excavator to clear debris in front of 178 Main Street in Unity on Tuesday. The work was done so former tenants could enter the burned building to retrieve belongings. Owner Ralph Nason Sr. said he has not decided what to do with the lot. “Right now I’m waiting on the insurance company,” Nason said.

PHOTO: Fire destroys car in Waterville

Waterville firefighters extinguish a fire that destroyed a 2005 Lexus sedan parked at Marden’s Surplus and Salvage, at 458 Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville, on Monday. Owner Lucille Roberge of Waterville said the car, which she recently purchased, was insured. “I came out of the store from shopping and said to myself that someone’s car was on fire, before I realized it was mine,” Roberge said. “I loved that car.”
