The 63-year-old actor and producer was performing Thursday when a prop gun he fired killed his cinematographer and wounded the director on a movie set outside Santa Fe, the sheriff’s office says.

Authorities say Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for the movie ‘Rust,’ was killed and director Joel Souza was injured by the shot on the movie set.

Both the show and New York City’s Apollo Theater are icons of Black culture.

The former ‘Empire’ actor is accused of lying to police when he reported that he was the victim of a racist, anti-gay attack in Chicago in 2019.
