Michael Hein is accused of kicking a puppy on the Kennebec River Rail Trail in 2015, a charge he denies.

The trial began Thursday for David Brown, who was driving a Jeep pulling a hayride wagon that crashed, killing an Oakland teenager and injuring more than 20 others.

Zachary Carey, 21, of Farmingdale, was wanted for questioning in relation to an incident earlier in the month and began running away from police when they approached him about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

David Brown will be tried on a charge of reckless conduct in Sagadahoc County in connection with the 2014 hayride crashed that killed Cassidy Charette, a student at Messalonskee High School.

Owner Sierra Miner says her 4-year-old Appaloosa mare, Lucy, was struck by a vehicle in her yard and dragged to its death, but police say they haven’t found any evidence that a vehicle struck the horse.

Attorney General Janet Mills will lead a forum on how to avoid scams and use her office’s resources in response to fraud.
