Mercier, of Industry, who was found guilty of Rita St. Peter’s 1980 Anson murder, has exhausted all appeals and with his newly appointed third attorney is seeking a post-conviction review.

‘Kindling,’ inspired by the arson spree that leveled Madison High School and other buildings 30 years ago and sent a 15-year-old to jail, has brought back memories for some residents who lived through it.

One student will be charged for allegedly throwing a firecracker into the full 20-cubic-yard dumpster, sparking the fire; and two others also may plead to charges, the district attorney said.
