In minor leagues, quirky names now part of the games

Why call a baseball team the Rumble Ponies, Flying Squirrels or Jumbo Shrimp? Because the monikers sell merchandise, draw fans and turn heads.

Their latest promotion will feature Red Sox outfielders in Win-Dance-Repeat poses, starting with Jackie Bradley Jr. on Tuesday.

Each year for opening day, groundskeepers at Hadlock Field must compete with Maine’s weather before the Sea Dogs can compete in the Eastern League.

The Sea Dogs are scheduled to host their season opener against Reading at 6 p.m. Friday.
