The Labor Day weekend showings could be the last time the screen lights up at the drive-in movie theater. A recording at the drive-in’s main number says “it may be the Skowhegan Drive-In Theater’s last.” The local spot coined as “Skowhegan’s Only Drive-In Theatre” had been open since 1954, with current owner Don Brown it’s fourth owner over 6 decades. According to Brown, revenue and attendance have fallen off to the point that operations are no longer sustainable. Photos taken by Morning Sentinel photojournalist Michael G. Seamans.
