Snowfall totaled about half a foot in much of southern Maine by Wednesday night, when snow changed over to rain along some coastal areas.

The storm drops a foot or more of snow along the coast and causes shoreline flooding, but the area avoids major damage and power outages. Next up: An invasion of more bitter cold.

The state wore a coat of ice as thick as 3 inches, and the disaster killed at least 4 people and cost the state $320 million.

Cities, towns and municipalities in 13 counties may submit requests to be reimbursed for cleanup costs from the devastating windstorm.

The weather also prompts Gov. LePage to declare a state of emergency so heating oil truck drivers can put in longer hours filling homeowners’ tanks.
