UMF announces Michael D. Wilson Research scholars

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington Undergraduate Research Council recently named 17 students as spring 2011 Michael D. Wilson Research Scholars — celebrating the fifth consecutive year of the successful undergraduate research program.

Kennebec Historical Society program set

Toribio receives national honor

ATLANTA, Ga. — The National Society of High School Scholars recently announced that Madison Area Memorial High School student Patrick G. Toribio of Athens was selected for membership. The Society recognizes top scholars and invites students who have achieved academic excellence. The announcement was made by NSHSS founder and Chairman Claes Nobel.

Apple tree pruning,grafting event planned

ST. ALBANS — Apple Tree Field Day Master Gardener Alumni Mark Sheriff, in collaboration with UMaine Cooperative Extension, will host an apple tree pruning and grafting field day at Avalon Acres from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Homeowners who are growing apple trees or plan to plant apple trees this spring are encouraged to attend.

‘PECHAKUCHA, VOL. 3’

WATERVILLE: “PechaKucha, Volume 3” will begin at 7:20 p.m. Saturday at the Waterville Grand Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn) in the restaurant/bar area, 375 Main St. in Waterville.
