Two taken to hospital after cycle SUV crash
BELGRADE — Two people were taken to a Lewiston hospital Wednesday after a motorcycle hit a sport utility vehicle on West Road.
Motorcycle driver Jennifer Myatt, 33, of Randolph, and Charlotte Ricker, 78, of Florida, a passenger in the SUV, were each taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center with what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries, said Kennebec County Sheriff Deputy Jesse Duda.
Ricker’s husband, Linwood Ricker, 78, who was driving the SUV, was not injured.
Myatt was wearing a helmet, Duda said.
The crash occurred 11:30 a.m., just east of the Dunn Road intersection. Myatt, who was following her husband’s motorcycle east on West Road, rounded a curve on a hill and drifted into the path of Linwood Ricker’s west-bound Buick Rendezvous, Duda said.
Myatt’s 2007 Yamaha XVS650 careened into a deep ditch. Ricker’s Buick came to a stop in the roadway.
The section of West Road was closed for more than 30 minutes as emergency crews tended to the injured and cleared the vehicles.
Myatt’s motorcycle was likely totaled, Duda said. Ricker’s Buick sustained damage to the passenger side front and fender.
No charges are expected, Duda said.
