A Connecticut man was taken by helicopter to a Lewiston hospital Saturday after his snowmobile hit a ridge on Flagstaff Lake and he was ejected from the machine, according to a Maine Warden Service official.
Evan Cusson, 18, of Clinton, Connecticut, suffered head injuries in the accident, which occurred in Bigelow Township, Warden Kim Bates said.
Bates, who responded to the scene with Sgt. Scott Thrasher, said the lake is very bumpy and the 1 p.m. accident occurred when Cusson drove his snowmobile down into a big dip in the ice and instead of going up and over the ridge, the snowmobile struck it.
“He was then ejected from the snowmobile,” Bates said.
She said Cusson was wearing a helmet at the time.
“He had head injuries and was initially unconscious but by the time LifeLight had gotten there, he was conscious,” Bates said.
The Stratton Fire Department responded to the scene first and then LifeLight landed and took Cusson to Central Maine Medical Center, Bates said.
Cusson was snowmobiling with a group of family and friends when the accident occurred, she said.
