FREEPORT — L.L. Bean is teaming up with Gifford’s Ice Cream to create a new flavor: “Muddy Bean Boots.”

The mid-week launch coincides with Maine’s “mud season,” the time of the year when melting snow yields a muddy mess in L.L. Bean’s home state.

For its 100th anniversary, Bean is partnering with companies for special edition products, like special canoes, paddles and bamboo fly rods.

Muddy Bean Boots was named for Bean’s iconic hunting shoe. Skowhegan-based Gifford’s says the flavor features vanilla ice cream, sweet caramel ripples and small brownie bites.
