Turcotte to receive Principal’s Award

SKOWHEGAN — Samantha A. Turcotte of Cornville, a senior at Skowhegan Area High School, was recently selected to receive the 2012 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Waterville’s Webb wins grant in Virginia

LEXINGTON, Va. — Isaac Webb of Waterville, a junior at Washington and Lee University, was recently selected for the spring/summer 2012 Johnson Opportunity Grant. The Johnson Program on Leadership and Integrity awards 25 to 30 grants each year.

Garden Fever Day set for April 14

EAST VASSALBORO — East Vassalboro Grange will host its third annual Garden Fever Day from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Seven workshops will be offered from local experts on water gardens, seed saving, growing wheat and garlic, permaculture, soil building and soup making. A $35 donation will include lunch.

Apple tree pruning field day April 14

ST. ALBANS — Master Gardener Alumni Mark Sheriff and family, in collaboration with UMaine Cooperative Extension, will host an apple-tree pruning and grafting field day. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 14, at Avalon Acres, 234 Dexter Road.

Free snowshoe rentals at Pine Grove Lodge

BINGHAM — Pine Grove Lodge, home of Maine Guide Snowshoes, offers free snowshoe rentals on Sundays. Individuals can hike to a nearby waterfall, Houston Brook Falls, or to the mountain across the street. Complimentary coffee, tea or hot cocoa and homemade snacks will be available.

Zumba-Thon in North Anson was a success

NORTH ANSON — The benefit American Cancer Society Zumba-Thon was recently held in North Anson. There were 46 participants, the event raised $650 for two Relay For Life Teams, SOS (Securing Our Survival) and D’s & D’s Dream Team. Tiara Nile, Melody Rich and Kelly Coughlin kept the activity going for three hours.
