WATERVILLE — April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The theme this year is “YOUth Can Break The Silence.” The annual Take Back the Night event will start with an introduction by Donna Strickler, the executive director of the Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center. There will be an open mic session and a candlelight vigil, followed by a march down Main Street, which will end at Barrel’s Community Market. A community forum will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Barrel’s. Topics will include: youth and violence, prevention, resources, and engaging youth. Refreshments will be provided.

The One in Five 5K will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Thomas College. Participants can run, jog, walk or roll their way to the finish line. The race will start and finish on the Thomas College campus. The cost is $5 for students and children 17 and younger and $15 for nonstudent community members. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center and its many resources that fight to end sexual assault.
