MADISON— A 40-year-old Anson woman faces a drug trafficking charge after police said they found her with 17 grams of cocaine valued at $1,700 as well as $850 in cash Thursday night.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Office personnel had been investigating the woman, Stacey Carrigan, for several months before they started a search of her and her 1998 Chevrolet truck about 7:15 p.m. along Route 148 in Madison, Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi II said.

In addition to the prepackaged cocaine and cash, police found digital scales and other drug-related items during the search of Carrigan and her vehicle, Gottardi said.

Carrigan was charged with trafficking in a schedule W drug and possession of a schedule W drug, Gottardi said.

The maximum punishment for each charge is a $10,000 fine and 10 years in prison, Gottardi said.

Carrigan was booked Thursday night at Somerset County Jail and her bail was set at $10,000, Gottardi said.
