Two hurt Saturday in China crash

The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Saturday crash in China in which two people were injured.
While traveling south on Lakeview Drive shortly after 2 a.m., Brittney Doughty, 21, of Vassalboro, lost control of the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving. The car veered off the road, then came to rest in the middle of the road near Alder Park Road, Cpl. G.J. Neagle said.

Doughty and a rear-seat passenger, 21-year-old Amanda Tower, of Whitefield, were ejected from the car, landing in the road. Windsor resident Christian Avery, 21, also was not wearing a seat belt but was not injured.

Tower was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, and Doughty was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Hospital, Thayer Campus, in Waterville. Both were in stable condition on Sunday.

Neagle said alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. He would not release information about where the three were coming from or going.

A New Hampshire man suffered internal injuries after crashing an all-terrain vehicle Saturday night in Somerville.
At about 6:40 p.m., Richard Lothian, 49, of Fremont, N.H., was riding a Honda ATV on Sand Hill Road in Somerville and lost control. The ATV rolled over and pinned him against a tree, according to Deputy Scott Hayden of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office

Hayden  said it appeared that Lothian was driving too fast and that alcohol also may have been a factor in the crash.

Lothian was not wearing a helmet, but did not suffer any major head injuries and remained conscious during the crash. He was riding alone. A woman who lives nearby heard his calls for help and called 911.

He was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was in stable condition on Sunday, Hayden said.

Lothian was staying at a nearby camp with family members, including his wife.
