WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold most of President Barack Obama’s health care law will come home to roost for most taxpayers in about 2 1/2 years, when they’ll have to start providing proof on their tax returns that they have health insurance.

Hall-Dale senior’s column was right on the mark
Just want to express my gratitude to a young lady, Helen Call (senior at Hall-Dale), for a well written Maine Compass (June 7) on how Americans don’t have proper respect for our veterans’ sacrifice.
We need more like Don Brown
Just wanted to add to the story about Don Brown. When I was 5, I would turn him on in the morning 1280 AM. Yup, no FM then. He was out on Northern Avenue at the WABK studio and transmitter site. They had three radio towers in the back field behind the studio and were called the “triple towers of power.” I would dare guess that nearly 50,000 kids over the years have glued their ears to the radio early in the morning during winters to hear him say school was canceled. He was truly part of the greater Gardiner area for all of my life and I am approaching 50. He brought moral ethics to the radio waves and was a great part of the community. We certainly need more like him.

Most running this country have not had to sacrifice
I have sat here and pondered, this last few weeks, what has been happening in the Supreme Court. I have thought and thought and, finally, it come to me. Most of the people running this country, (not all), but most, have never had to sacrifice anything for this country. They try to make you believe that what they are doing is a public service for us and this country, but what is really happening is they could really care less. Franklin had the right idea. Public office should be strictly voluntary, no pay. Maybe then we could get people in there who really care about this country and the principals it was founded on. It is like a child who is given every toy. Those toys are broken much faster than the ones that the child has to work and sacrifice for. This country is being broken by people who have made no real sacrifices.
