Bolduc selected as emerging leader

WATERVILLE — Waterville native Kevin Bolduc was recently selected as an emerging nonprofit leader by the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization that fosters leadership based on enduring values and provides a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues.

Applications accepted for initiatives

FARMINGTON — Agricultural and forest producers have an opportunity to submit applications for funding through conservation initiatives, announced Paul Hersey in a press release, district conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Funded through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, applications will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 21, for the On-Farm Energy, Organic, Seasonal High Tunnel, and New England/New York Forestry initiatives for Fiscal Year 2013.

Plant identification workshop planned

WILTON — The Maine Forest Service in cooperation with the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an invasive plant identification and control workshop 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Wilton Town office on Route 156.

Oakland’s Smedberg receives recognition

OAKLAND — Casey Smedberg of Oakland, a senior at Gordon College, with a double major in English and political science, spent her junior year at Oxford University in England. She also achieved a 3.97 grade-point average at Gordon while studying at Wycliffe College at Oxford University.

Dorey to talk at the Hartland Public Library

HARTLAND — Author Annette Vance Dorey will give an illustrated talk about her new book, “Maine Mothers Who Murdered 1875-1925: Doing Time in State Prison” and share stories about the research and creating the book at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the library, 16 Mill St. The event will be held in the library meeting room and light refreshments will be served.
