AUGUSTA — The Viles Arboretum recently held its first Run for the Trees 5k race. The race traveled over the arboretum’s grass trails, wetland boardwalk, botanical collections and woodlands.

Food was served following the race. Musical entertainment was provided by choral group Unplugged and Twisted Strings.

Overall winner was Willie Leach of Morrill, with a time of 21:35. Leach, above center, with Syndi Holmes, left, and Mark DesMueles, right, holds the oak harp he was presented with. This trophy will have his name added to its base and will be permanently displayed at the arboretum with subsequent winner’s names added each year.
