PITTSON — Firefighters from several communities battled a stubborn chimney fire on Blodgett Road Friday morning.

“It took a while to get it out,” said Pittston Fire Chief Jason Farris. “We got to it before it got into the walls.”

The fire was called in around 6:45 a.m. at a home under renovation about a mile off Kelley Road, Farris said. The 2-1/2 story home had a steeply pitched roof which, combined with falling snow, made reaching the chimney a challenge, Farris said.

Gardiner firefighters were summoned to the scene with a ladder truck, Farris said. Randolph and Farmingdale, which provide mutual aid for all structure and chimney fires, also responded, Farris said.

The fire was under control by 8 a.m. and caused no damage to the home, Farris said.
