RICHMOND—A Monmouth couple was taken to the hospital Thursday after a Brunswick Road crash that also injured the couple’s young child.

Chase Bickford, 27, and his partner, Ashley Ward, 25, were both taken by ambulance to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Richmond Police Officer Doug Bellevue said Ward was the more seriously hurt, but she and Bickford suffered what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

The couple’s toddler, who was in a child safety seat in the back of the 1999 Volkswagen Passat, was treated by rescue workers at the scene, but rode to the hospital with a relative, Bellevue said.

The driver of the second car, Samantha Williams, 17, of Bowdoin, was not injured, Bellevue said.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m., as Bickford drove south on Route 201, which is also known as Brunswick Road. Bellevue said Williams, who was driving south in her 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, failed to notice when Bickford slowed to make a right turn into a driveway at 96 Brunswick Road. Williams’ Cavalier hit Bickford’s Passat from behind, sending the Volkswagen spinning off the road and into the driveway, Bellevue said.

Williams continued down the road until her car came to stop after about a half mile, Bellevue said.

Both cars were totaled.

There are no charges connected to the crash.
