LEEDS — Motorists who usually travel along Route 219 in Leeds will have to detour around that road beginning Monday.

The state Department of Transportation is closing the road  for five days for a culvert replacement project.

Department spokesman Ted Talbot said the project takes place on Route 219 some 600 feet west of Route 106.

Motorists will be directed through an 18-mile detour along Routes 133 and 106.

The project will replace a five-foot diameter corrugated metal pipe with a reinforced concrete pipe that is eight feet in diameter.

Talbot said the road closure is a result of the depth of the excavation required.

Other roadwork will take place along Route 219 through June, but will not impact traffic, Talbot said.

The $134,000 project is being done by Drew Corp. of Lovell.
