OAKLAND — Police said they have brought criminal charges against a 16-year-old boy after he dumped bleach into the family’s fish tank, killing all of the fish inside.

Capt. Rick Stubbert said officers responded to a call about a disturbance in the boy’s High Street home at about 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Stubbert said the boy, whose name police wouldn’t release because he is a minor, did it because he was angry with his mother.

The boy was charged with cruelty to animals, a class D crime that carries a penalty of up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine. Stubbert said that because of the boy’s age, it’s likely the case will be handled by social service agencies rather than the court system.
