A commander for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency announced that he will leave his post after accepting the chief deputy position with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a post on the MDEA Facebook page, Darrell Crandall will start his new position at the beginning of August, working with new commander Peter Arno for the next two weeks on a transition.

Arno will help lead coverage of northern Kennebec County.

Crandall was hired by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office in 1985 and began his MDEA assignment in 1989 as an agent, before he was promoted to task force supervisor in 1993. He was promoted to division commander in 2005.
