AUGUSTA — Kennebec County Treasurer Robert Crockett has resigned from his post, effective in January, a county news release said.
In his resignation letter to commissioners last week, Crockett, the county treasurer since 2007, said because of health problems, he “can no longer give the position the time and attention it deserves.”
Before Crockett was elected to the county office, he served 14 years on the Augusta City Council. He is married to Patsy Crockett, a former Democratic state legislator.
The county Democratic committee will submit a recommendation to the governor to fill out the remainder of Crockett’s term, which expires Jan. 1, 2015.
