The male caller said he was a federal agent who would arrest the woman unless she wired $5,000. Police believe the caller used an Internet device to hijack the department’s number.

At 6:08 a.m., Alexander Griatszky, 32, of Richmond, was charged with leaving the scene of accident and failure to report an accident by quickest means by police investigating a report of a crash on Alexander Reed Road. The 2007 Jeep Compass Griatszky allegedly was driving suffered significant damage. Additional charges are possible. Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call police at 737-8515.

At 5:45 a.m., a 48-year-old Bath man was charged with operating with a license expired more than 90 days during a traffic stop on Main Street. The man was driving a 2001 Chrysler minivan owned by West Bath-based Platinum Plus Taxi.

8:23 a.m., a 37-year-old Gardiner man was charged with criminal speed — 30 or more mph over the posted limit — during a traffic stop on Beedle Road.

Jennifer Lynn Sapienza, 32, of Clinton, was charged with theft, misuse of identification and unlawful possession of a scheduled drug.

At 8:52 a.m., Corey T. Adams, 19, of Augusta, was arrested on a warrant on Calumet Bridge.

2:37 p.m., Kevin Fontnette, 52, of Augusta, was arrested on charges of domestic-violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime by police responding to a complaint on Gannett Street.

Scott Everatt, 58, of Gardiner, was arrested on a warrant issued in connection with a theft by deception investigation involving a wood chipper stolen in Hallowell.
