The Maine State Police bomb squad was scheduled to clear a house in Bristol Friday morning so that investigators can determine the cause of an explosion that sent a man to the hospital Thursday night.

The Bristol Fire Department was called to 329 Carl Bailey Road in Bristol at 8 p.m. for a report of a small explosion. The resident of the house was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with injuries, including to his left thigh and one of his hands, according to a spokesman for the state Fire Marshal’s Office, which is investigating the case.

There was no fire, but officials do not yet know what exploded. Another person in the house was unable to provide information, said Sgt. Joel Davis.

Once the house is declared safe, investigators will execute a search warrant, he said.
