UNITY — “Supercluster Arion and Other Phenomena,” a show of photographs by Deanna Witman, will be exhibited in The Leonard R. Craig Gallery at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts through April 18.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Refreshments will be provided. The reception is free and open to the public.

Witman’s “Supercluster Arion and Other Phenomena” explores elements of time and biology as process and as universal connections.

Over the course of three years, she worked with common slugs directly on silver photographic paper. The process involved nightly slug hunting trips in the woods, followed by late-night darkroom sessions. Each image is unique and cannot be recreated; each a singular object, and yet part of the collective, across time.

Witman holds a MFA in Photography from Maine Media College and a B.S in environmental science from Kutztown University. She is represented by Susan Maasch Fine Art in Portland.

Witman lives in Rockland and teaches at Unity College and Maine Media Workshops and College. She is a recent recipient of The Kindling Fund via Space Gallery.
