A Maine pilot has set the world record for cross-country flight in a single-engine prop aircraft after flying from Ontario, California, to Portland.

WCSH-TV reports Damon Meyer of Saco left Ontario around 4:30 a.m. Sunday PST and landed in Portland at 8:50 p.m. EST, for a total time of 12 hours and 20 minutes.

Meyer says he had some modifications done to his single-engine plane so it could fly faster. He says he chatted with several people online to pass time during the flight.

Meyer says that within the next two years he will try to set another record for flying around the world.
