The Waterville Police Department is holding its 2015 Citizens’ Police Academy starting in September and is looking for participants.
The academy has weekly Wednesday evening classes running Sep. 9 through Nov. 18. There is no fee, but the class size is limited to 25, according to a news release from the department.
In addition to specific weekly topics, the program includes patrol ride-alongs, firearms scenario simulations and communications center observation.
Police Chief Joseph Massey said participants will “gain an understanding of the diverse demands and operational requirements of the Waterville Police Department and develop an awareness and appreciation of various challenges and decisions faced on a daily basis by police officers.”
Those interested can get an application at the Waterville Police Department, 10 Colby St., at www.watervillepolice.org news, or by contacting kkenney@waterville-me.gov. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 21.
