A local man is charged with theft after allegedly selling property that had been stolen from the former Solon Manufacturing Building on Spring Street in Skowhegan.

Gerald T. Geisinger, 30, was arrested Wednesday and is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the sex offender registry, according to a news release from acting Police Chief Donald Bolduc.

The building is believed to have been burglarized Tuesday, and about $2,800 in tools and other items were taken, the release said.

One of the storage building’s owners then reported seeing a man riding a bicycle that had been among the stolen items and reported it to police.

The man reported he bought the bicycle from Geisinger, who told police he had bought it from a juvenile and that he knew the bicycle had been stolen.

When police executed search warrants at two properties Geisinger had access to, they also recovered other stolen property.

The juvenile, who has not been charged yet, admitted that he had burglarized the building. Geisinger is being held at the Somerset County Jail and more charges are expected in the case, the release said.
