Police are searching for a man they say attacked another man with a weapon Monday inside a Water Street apartment.
Augusta Police Sgt. Christian Behr said the victim suffered superficial injuries to his head, face and arms during the attack. The victim did not require medical treatment.
Behr said the man, an employee of the apartment complex at 384 Water St., was attacked around 9:30 a.m. while checking empty apartments. The employee found a man inside a third-floor apartment and confronted him.
“Apparently he had some kind of sharp instrument,” Behr said, adding he was unsure if it was a knife, razor blade or something else.
The unidentified man left the building on foot. Police searched the area, including cars and buildings, but did not find the man, Behr said.
Behr said he believes the suspect is homeless and was staying in the apartment illegally. Behr does not believe there is a danger to the public.
The suspect is about 6 feet 4 inches tall and is in his mid 20s. He has blond hair and was wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt and a backpack.
Behr asked anyone with information to call Augusta Police at 626-2370.
