Monmouth Academy has announced its top honor students for the class of 2016.

Samantha Blundon, daughter of Andrew Blundon and Heather Hilliker, is co-valedictorian. She has been the vice president of the Civil Rights Team, and the treasurer of National Honor Society. She has participated in tennis, Key Club, Math Team, History Club, Book Club, Academic Decathlon, and tech team, throughout her years at Monmouth Academy. She plans to attend Wheaton College in the fall to study neuroscience.

Rebekah Bryant, daughter of Chris and Kathy Bryant, is co-valedictorian. She was a member of the cross country running team, Nordic ski team, alpine ski team and the softball and track teams over her four years at Monmouth. She was also involved in Math Team, Academic Decathlon, was a member of the National Honor Society, a class treasurer, and was an exchange student to Sweden for a year. Bryant plans to attend the United States Air Force Academy and plans to major in engineering.

Anna Kulinski, daughter of Richard Kulinski and Sari Kulinski, is ranked second. She was president of Future Business Leaders of America and a member of the Math Team, National Honor Society, Envirothon, Civil Rights, Yearbook, and Outing Club. She was also a peer helper, a teacher assistant in freshman Science and Spanish III, and captain of varsity cheerleading. Kulinski plans to attend the University of Maine and major in psychology.

Taylor Spadafora, daughter of Barbara and Anthony Spadafora, and is ranked third. She was a member of National Honor Society, Community Service Club, Key Club, History Club and Envirothon. She also participated in varsity soccer and track and field. Spadafora plans to attend Colby-Sawyer College and major in environmental science.

Haley West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas West Sr., is ranked fourth. She was senior class vice president and National Honor Society president. She was an active member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Envirothon, cross country team, and basketball team. She spent her senior year volunteering at the elementary school in a first grade and kindergarten classroom. West plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington where she will major in elementary education and minor in special education.

Madison Bumann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bumann, is ranked fifth. She was a member of Academic Decathlon, Envirothon, National Honor Society, Outing Club, and Key Club. She also was a peer helper and participant in varsity soccer, track and field, and Nordic skiing. Bumann plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono and major in journalism.

Matthew Brooks, son of Janet and Brent Brooks, is ranked sixth. He was a member of National Honor Society and Community Service Club. He was also a peer helper and participated in junior varsity soccer, cross country skiing, Math Team, and Civil Rights Team. Brooks plans to attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst and major in computer science.

Samantha Grandahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Grandahl, is ranked seventh. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon, Drama Club, and Community Service Club. She also participated in varsity soccer and varsity track and field. Grandahl plans to attend Lasell College and major in fashion merchandising and marketing.

Luke Thombs, son of Norman Thombs and Kathy Perless, is ranked eighth. He was senior class president and member of Envirothon, Academic Decathlon, Key club, and Future Business Leaders of Academic. He also participated in varsity cross country, basketball and track and field. Thombs plans to attend Wheaton College in Massachusetts and major in business management.

Nicholas Menice, son of Jean and Paul Menice, and is ranked ninth. He is a member of Student Government, Envirothon, Drama and Future Business Leaders of America. He participated on the varsity basketball, cross-country, and track and field teams. He plans on attending College of the Holy Cross in the fall and major in biology with a pre-med track.

Anderson Houston, daughter of Lucinda and Jason Houston, is ranked 10th. She was the secretary of National Honor Society and former president of the History Club. Throughout her high school career Anderson also participated in recreational and competitive dancing. Houston plans to attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine to major in nursing.
