Today is definitely the best day of the next three and if you are fortunate enough to be able to work from home or take an early afternoon off I highly recommend getting outside. Today’s highs will reach near 60 in many places making for a fantastic end of the workweek in terms of weather.

The actual weekend is a roughly 50-50 split. Tomorrow is the best day of the two and temperatures will also be much milder tomorrow compared to what’s coming on Sunday.

A low-pressure area is going to become quite strong as it moves north of the region Sunday. This will put us on the cold side of the storm with stronger winds and lowering temperatures. There will be a few showers as well. There will be a change to snow showers in the mountains Sunday night and Monday.

Showers bring a bit of rain to the area on Sunday.

Much of next week is looking cold and is almost a guarantee Thanksgiving week will average the chilliest week of the fall so far – not surprising, but something to prepare for.

If you’re playing soccer, softball, football, or golf …
Saturday fields will be dry. There will be an increase in clouds during the afternoon with mild temperatures in the 50s. Any showers Saturday should hold off until late in the day or at night if they occur at all. Look for colder weather Sunday with wet fields possible in areas that see showers.

If you’re going skiing …
Check ahead to be sure an area is open. As of Friday morning only Killington in Vermont is skiing. Sunday River is scheduled to open next week!

If you’re raking and gardening …
Saturday is a great day for fall cleanup and putting away garden supplies. Colder, damp weather Sunday will make it more difficult to be in the yard.

Look for much colder air Sunday and this will continue Thanksgiving week

If you’re hiking or walking or running …
No weather issues Saturday make that a great day for a long run or hike. Showers are possible in southern New England Sunday, but likely up north. Look for much colder readings as well.

If you’re running errands …

Sunday is the day to do errands. Use Saturday to enjoy being outside. Of course this might not be possible. Saturday midday temperatures will be in the 50s.

If you’re going to an outdoor event …
Any outdoor event will happen with full cooperation from the weather Saturday. Sunday is a different story with cool and raw conditions. There will be periods of showers as well. Look for some snow showers in the mountains.

I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
