Three cars were damaged and at least one person was injured Friday morning in Augusta when a man who couldn’t see clearly out his frosted windshield attempted to turn his 2010 Toyota Corolla left off Riverside Drive, said Sgt. Christian Behr, of the Augusta Police Department.

The collision happened around 7:30 a.m. when the man, Kevin Lamoreau, 35, of Augusta, was driving north on Riverside Drive and tried to turn left onto Lipman Road but could not see a 2015 Nissan Versa driving in the southbound lane, Behr said.

The two cars collided, and the woman driving the Nissan, Bonnie Cassidy, 49, of Vassalboro, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a broken ankle, Behr said.

Lamoreau complained of foot pain but did not need to be taken to a hospital. Because of the frost on his windshield, Lamoreau was issued a summons on a charge of driving with an obstructed windshield, Behr said.

A third car — a 2014 Hyundai Elantra driven by James Connors, 49, of Hampstead, New Hampshire, also was involved in the accident. Connors was driving north on Riverside Drive behind Lamoreau and attempted to swerve to avoid the accident, but Lamoreau’s sedan spun around and struck the Elantra, Behr said.

At least one of the cars had to be towed away because of damage, Behr said.
