Luke’s Lobster gave away 100 lobster rolls Wednesday afternoon as it looked to bolster its campaign for a new lobster emoji. Luke’s Lobster is lobbying the Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit group that determines which emoji to add to cellphones and tablets each year. A lobster is among 67 candidates to become an emoji. A list of finalists will be released at the consortium’s October meeting.
The online petition had nearly 3,800 supporters as of early Wednesday afternoon.
