FARMINGTON — Police arrested a Lewiston man Tuesday for allegedly committing burglary and stealing items from an apartment complex in Phillips that had been damaged by a fire earlier this month.

A resident of an apartment complex on Dodge Road in Phillips that had been declared unlivable after the Jan. 15 fire alerted police Tuesday that a burglary had taken place, according to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols. The complainant told police that Larry Plourde, 40, who also had been living in the apartment complex at the time of the fire, had called asking if his Playstation and television had been damaged in the blaze.

The complainant told police Plourde’s call made him suspicious, so he returned to the building and found that his items were gone. A third resident called the complainant and said that Plourde had the complainant’s missing television and Playstation.

Officers from the sheriff’s office and the Farmington Police Department confronted Plourde at a motel in Farmington where he had been staying. He eventually admitted having taken the items and was arrested at the scene and transported to jail.

Police charged him with class C burglary and class C theft, for having prior theft convictions, and class C violating conditions of release for having contact with a victim in a previous case who was present at the motel when police arrived.
