A Westbrook police officer was injured early Thursday morning when a car driven by an intoxicated driver slammed into his cruiser on William Clarke Drive.

Officer Kipp Bleicken was responding to a report of a man passed out in his car on William Clarke Drive around 2:55 a.m. when a car driven by 29-year-old Christian Yannick Levry of Westbrook crossed the center line and struck the marked police cruiser.

Police say there was substantial damage to both vehicles.

Bleicken sustained minor injuries in the crash, police said. He was evaluated and released from a local hospital.

Levry was arrested for operating under the influence, reckless conduct and aggravated assault. He is being held at Cumberland County Jail.

Levry was previously convicted of operating under the influence on April 4, 2017, in Cumberland County Unified Court, according to police.
