Three men were arrested by Lewiston police Saturday night in connection with reports of possible gunshots fired in the downtown area earlier in the day.

Arrested were Quentaris J. Leonard, 33, of Lewiston, who was charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine; James L. Crump, 41, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, charged with robbery, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and aggravated reckless conduct; and Sharod W. Nunes, 39, of Lewiston, on an existing warrant for aggravated trafficking of illegal drugs.

Lt. David St. Pierre said the men were arrested during the investigation into reports of gunshots but he did not release any details of what led to the arrests. Quentaris was arrested in Lewiston about 6 p.m. Saturday and the other two men were arrested later in Auburn.

The reports of gunfire were made by several people, who said they heard at least five shots about 6 a.m. near the corner of Bartlett and Walnut streets. Police spent Saturday morning looking for a victim after finding what appeared to be a blood trail and other signs shots had been fired.

St. Pierre said it is not clear that the blood trail resulted from a shooting or another altercation and it is not certain whether the trail consisted of blood or some other substance.

He said more charges could follow. The men are being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.
