SMITHFIELD — Voters in Smithfield sailed through a 65-article warrant Saturday night at the annual Town Meeting, approving all articles, including a request to borrow up to $300,000 to buy a used fire truck.

About 35 people turned out for the meeting at the fire station, which concluded at about 8:15 p.m., according to Town Clerk Meredyth Tuttle.

They passed an approximately $1 million budget that was about the same as last year’s spending plan, Tuttle said.

“It all fell into place,” she said. “It went really smoothly. It was a real good event.”

In elections earlier in the day at the town’s municipal complex, 63 residents voted to reelect Tuttle and others, including First Selectman Richard Moore, Second Selectman Molly Chapman and Third Selectman Justin Furbush, who also was reelected town sexton.

Joni Gould was reelected town treasurer and tax collector, and David Kincaid was reelected road commissioner.

Tuttle said discussion about the bond for the used tanker truck included that the town has managed its finances well and has no outstanding bonds.

“Therefore, this investment in our Fire Department comes at absolutely the best time,” she said, “and with probably the most unbelievable interest rates.”

Tuttle said the truck would not only be a tanker truck but also an attack truck. It would come with upgraded equipment that can be used with other trucks.

Residents also voted to approve $162,459 for winter roads; $150,000 for goods and services for town-owned roads and the paving and reconstruction road reserve account; $141,724 for town officials and employees; $122,017 for general expenses; $70,000 for solid waste disposal; $47,600 for Fire Department operations; and $16,962 for Fire Department salaries and expenses.
