In Augusta, the state CDC opened an outbreak investigation at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation on Oct. 28, officials confirmed Friday.

Robert Long, spokesman for the CDC, said 16 cases have been reported among the facility’s residents, and 11 cases have been reported among staff, according to the most recent information available to him.

“Our outbreak response team is working directly with the facility, including to ensure the availability of testing and that appropriate infection control measures are in place,” Long said via email Friday.

This is the second outbreak at the facility on Eastern Avenue. The CDC opened an investigation in April 2020. At that time, 48 residents and 29 staff were infected with COVID-19, and eight residents died.
