May is Military Appreciation Month. It is a time when Americans are reminded to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. The month has specific events important to those who served in the military: Loyalty Day, VE Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. Memorial Day is the most important to recognize as we remember those who died in service to our nation.
This is a fitting month to say thanks to all who are or have served and a great time to praise groups like the American Legion, the DAV, the VFW, the Legion Auxiliary, and all the other groups of veterans who answered the call to serve, did their duty, and when they returned home they continued to serve. These groups are constantly finding ways to help our veterans and our communities.
They do not seek acclaim. They do not seek rewards. They seek to do good and we are a better nation for their efforts.
