Parking on Main Street in Waterville is a concern expressed by other editorial letters. When the most recent Main Street renovations were completed, there was not one disability parking spot. Not one!

The committee that worked on the renovations forgot a segment of our population — people with mobility difficulties — and they violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires parking designated for people with disabilities. After bringing this concern to the attention of the city engineer, disability parking spaces were marked on the street. There are now six spaces but the sign posts are not up.

With winter coming, the marked spaces will not be able to be seen once covered with snow and slush. Plus, mores spaces are needed. There used to be one in front of Camden National Bank, a bank that should have this as there is no drive through. So, contact your local/state representative so more can be done to improve this situation.
