AUGUSTA — People can celebrate Francophonie Month by taking a free French language class for adult beginners at Lithgow Public Library.
The class is set to take place in the Board Room every Thursday from 2-3 p.m. from March 14 to April 18 at the 45 Winthrop St. library.
Registration for the class is required. It is preferred that registrants are able to attend the class consistently from start to finish. Participants should bring supplies to take notes, and be ready to participate.
The class, led by Régine Whittlesey, will go over personal introductions; being able to express simply where people are from and what they do; and family, weather, numbers, colors vocabulary and basic grammatical conjugation so as to be able to speak in complete sentences. The class may also go over basic French geography, a lesson on Maine Francophonie or other topics of interest.
To register, call the library at 207-626-2415, or visit lithgow.lib.me.us.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
