HARTFORD, Conn. — Cole Carrigg homered as the Hartford Yard Goats sent the Portland Sea Dogs to their fourth straight loss with 3-1 win in Sunday’s series finale.
Sea Dogs right-hander Lucas Giolito, making his second start during a Red Sox rehab assignment, allowed three earned runs in five innings and struck out four. Connelly Early tossed three innings of one-hit relief while striking out six.
Carrigg put the Yard Goats (9-5) on the board with his third-inning solo blast. RBI doubles by Benny Montgomery in the fourth and Dylan Jorge in the fifth boosted the lead to 3-0.
The Sea Dogs (7-6) broke up the shutout on Jhostynxon Garcia’s eighth-inning solo home run.
Hartford’s Mason Green earned the win with two innings of one-hit relief. Giolito took the loss.
The Sea Dogs return home Tuesday for the start of a six-game homestand against the Reading Fightin Phils.
