Chad Epperson became the winningest manager in franchise history on Saturday night when the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 8-2 at Hadlock Field in Portland.

Epperson now has 283 career wins, passing Arnie Beyeler for the franchise record. Beyeler went 282-283 from 2007-2010. Epperson, who took over in 2022, is 283-245.

Epperson played eight seasons in the minor leagues before beginning his managing career in 2001 with the independent Cook County Cheetahs of the Frontier League. He spent eight seasons as a manager or coach in the Red Sox minor league system before spending 12 years as their catching coordinator. He was named Sea Dogs manager in Feb. 2022.

On Saturday, the Sea Dogs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Allan Castro and a wild pitch. Binghamton tied it in the fourth inning, but the Sea Dogs answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Portland scored three runs on an error, Caden Rose had an RBI triple and Justin Reimer an RBI single in the fourth.

Hayden Mullins pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out six and walking four to earn the win and improve to 5-2 with the Sea Dogs. Cooper Adams pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out six.
