As more than 160,000 Mainers stand to lose their SNAP benefits in November, and thousands more residents have been furloughed or are working without pay as a result of the federal government shutdown, here are some restaurants, eateries and markets around the state that are offering free or discounted food to those in need.
People interested in taking advantage of these programs should first contact the restaurant or market to make sure there is still food available. If you know of other establishments offering food that are not included here, please add a comment below or contact us at [email protected].
