Federal budget cuts inspire benefit for homebound seniors
Caption: Local guitarist, Douglas Clark, will be performing in the
Active Agers Talent Show being held at Jewett Hall on the UMA campus on
May 18th.
(Greater Augusta Area – April 5, 2013) Got talent? Don’t miss this
opportunity to see if you could be the next American Idol.
Spectrum Generations senior nutrition program is partnering with the
University of Maine at Augusta Senior College to produce the Active
Agers Talent Show on May 18 from 2 to 4pm at Jewett Hall UMA. Don Brown
from 93.5 FM True Oldies will act as the Master of Ceremonies for this
afternoon of fun, humor and music performed by local talent. Money
raised from ticket sales and donations will benefit Spectrum Generations
Meals on Wheels Program to help feed central Maine’s homebound seniors
and disabled adults.
Dancers, actors, musicians, and vocalists are needed. Whatever your
talent may be, if you are 55 years or older, come unleash the power of
age by sharing your special talents and support a good cause at the same
time. A few of the acts already lined up from recent talent auditions
will be Douglas Clark, a local guitarist; the Swing Time Band Trio with
sounds from the 30’s; local celebrity Katie Perry with some of her
favorite jokes; and the Granite Hill Estates line dancers performing the
“Gotta Dance” slide.
According to the event coordinator, Lynda Johnson, “Recent federally
mandated budget cuts inspired us to pull together this benefit to offset
cuts to our Meals on Wheels program, a program that helps our most
vulnerable homebound seniors and disabled adults.”
To sign up to perform or for more information about this exciting event,
call Lynda Johnson at 626-7777, or email her at
ljohnson@spectrumgenerations.org.
Tickets are $10.00 for general admission and $7.00 for students, and are
now on sale at the Cohen Community Center located at 22 Town Farm Road
in Hallowell, or by calling 626-7777. Tickets will also be on sale at
the door on the day of the event.
Spectrum Generations is central Maine’s Area Agency on Aging and Aging
and Disability Resource Center. Our mission is to promote life-long
learning, health, wellness, nutrition, community engagement, and the
