A person was rescued from the Kennebec River on Thursday morning after jumping from the Donald V. Carter Memorial Bridge, connecting Waterville and Winslow, according to officials.
The Waterville Fire Department’s rescue team responded to the call at 7:17 a.m.
“Our boat made its way down to the pylon, and we loaded the person on the boat, brought them back to shore and successfully transported them,” Waterville Battalion Chief Rodney Alderman said.
The person, who was not identified Thursday, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Campus for treatment, according to Alderman.
The person was located near a pylon in the river, close to the Winslow side of the bridge, which connects Waterville and Winslow via Route 137.
The Waterville Fire Department dispatched rescue watercrafts, and the Winslow Fire Department had a rescue boat on standby.
Two rescue workers on a personal watercraft reached the person first as the rescue boat made it way to the person in the water.
