HALLOWELL — The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2013, the 18th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2013 is open to all Maine artists and also to artists with a strong connection to Maine. This years jurors are Bob Keyes and Dan Kany, both are arts writers at the Portland Press Herald.
PAT COLWELL talks about upcoming hometown show
On Friday, Feb. 15, Johnson Hall in Gardiner will host a concert featuring the Colwell Brothers and their band. These two popular Maine musicians have been doing their thing for many years now and have recently released a brand new CD titled “Guilty Pleasures” which is made up of six original tunes (written by the brothers) and four covers by the likes of Chuck Berry, Lieber and Stoller, Johnny Bristol and Don Covay. In a recent telephone interview from his office in Auburn, Pat Colwell chatted about his brother, Bob, their musical history as well as their newest album … which was the first topic of the conversation.
‘Rust and Bone’ draws blood and tears
In “Rust and Bone,” director Jacques Audiard (“A Prophet”) introduces us to two handicapped humans: Ali (Matthias Schoenarets), a transient street and kick-boxing fighter from Belgium, whose handicap is a social one. Ali, a walking bruise of a man, has been tossed upon city’s streets with little education. In adulthood, he has made money slugging it out in back alley money bouts, and arrives on this last doorstep hungry for life to color.
